the nap that almost was

today, i'm happy to report that both girls took their naps, and part of it was even at the same time! this is about as exciting as it gets, people! in fact, i almost got a nap, myself. instead, however, i decided to use that time to take a shower. i realized while i was folding laundry this morning that something stunk in my living room. i sniffed the laundry, checked the girls' diapers, looked under couch...then i realized that it was me. with noe unable to breathe through her nose, she hasn't slept well at night, which means i haven't slept well. then mali for the past few nights has decided to wake up at 4:30 rather than 6:00 for her early feeding. then noe gets up early...so at night, i've been exhausted and opted to skip my shower at night in favor of twenty extra minutes of sleep the past two nights. well, needless to say that spending the days cooking, cleaning, changing diapers and wiping up spit, i wasn't smelling like roses. maybe the fertilizer that makes the roses grow so pretty, but definitely not the roses. so today, when i had an extra few minutes of silence, i jumped into the shower. while i would rather be rested, my family, i'm sure, would rather i were clean. anyway, i took my shower and even got to put my hair up before mali wanted out of her crib. what made the day more exciting, however, was when she soon after wanted to go back to sleep! she was dosing in and out about thirty minutes before noe was due to get up. i laid down on the couch while she was in her swing with the pacifier in her mouth and was almost able to get a cat nap...but she would keep spitting the paci out and crying. so i'd put it back and rock the swing a bit. she'd doze. i'd lay down...she'd wake up. this was the pattern right up until noe got up...then mali slept while i held her. figures, right? oh, well. it was close, so maybe tomorrow....
