today, my mom gets old...-er. i keep wondering when she's going to stop that, since she complains about the aging thing so much, but each year, she does it again! i guess she's just a glutton for punishment. it's a good thing our senses of humor are the same, or she may not take kindly to that. it wouldn't stop me from saying it, but maybe i wouldn't have posted it for everyone else to see. then again, maybe i would have. anyway, happy birthday old woman! see, this is also how i check to see that she's reading my blog!
i've been to the library already twice this month and am making a return trip today to pick up an item i have on hold that just came in. i like the library here, it has a really nice kids' section and is arranged in a way that makes a lot more sense than the one in sarasota. most of the girls at the front desk recognize me to the point that they rarely need to ask my name when i pick something up and, if i'm ever without the girls, they inquire after them (perhaps to make sure i didn't just leave them in the car?). yesterday, though, ther was a woman who really irked me. at first, i thought i was going to get along with her just as well as the other ladies because she saw me standing a the end of a rather long line to check out with the girls in their stroller making noise because mali wanted to play with noe's seat back and noe, of course, didn't want her to. i didn't think they were really being that loud or obnoxious and was perfecly willing to continue waiting, but then this woman (who had been visiting with some friends off to the side) called me over to her station to check out. sometimes, it really pays to bring the kids! anyway, noe was wanting to "help" me by putting the books and movies into the bag after they'd been scanned. this makes the process run a little longer, but, again, it wasn't really bad, and there was no one else behind me. but i notice the woman is giving her friends (who were not much younger than myself and one of whom happened to have a child at home) a look that, to me, said "oh, brother. you see what i have to put up with?". while noe continued to make progress, i told the woman i also had some things on hold and she turned around to go get them. at this point, noe finishd her task and decided to start pointing out everything on the woman's desk. when the woman returns, noe points to some things and tells her what they are and, as per her usual manner, smiles and claps. the woman does not so much as crack a smile in return. then noe wanted to play with some of the items for customers to take (fliers, magnets, etc.). to keep her from taking them all, i gave her a flier and one magnet. then i started putting the hold items into the bag myself, not realizing that noe was close enough to the edge of the desk to get a couple more magnets. how could she resist? she only got two more, as they were stuck together and sitting apart from the others. let me remind you that these items are free for the customers, that noe wasn't hurting them (only looking at them), no one ever takes any, and she had a total of three. this woman acted as though she had committed a really horrible crime! sje reached over the desk and took all the magnets back, and the flier! then noe, who ordinarily would have thrown a fit about this, only said quite pitifully, "more please." so i took another magnet from the pile and gave it to her. the woman then says to her friends, "this is why i just need to retire"! what was this lady's deal?! i have to go back today. if she's there again, perhaps i'll ask when the happy day is so i can throw a going away party...the day after.
mali is doing the army crawl. she's not great at it yet, still going backwards when she means to go forward about half the time, but she gets to where she's going. if she sees noe set something on the floor that she wants, you'll be amazed at how fast that chubby belly can get across the floor!
well, that's it for now. i'll check back in again soon.
