urgent care adventure #3: the foot and the false figuring

i'm the worst mom. yesterday, after the girls had had so much fun at their friend's house and then at mcd's (yes, again) with more friends, i had to go and ruin it. after mali's nap, i was carrying her down the stairs and slipped. i fell a few feet with mali's leg still wrapped around one side, and ended up landing with her foot trapped between my back and the stairs. the next two hours were full of me trying to get her to walk...unsuccessfully. she was fine, laughing and playing, as long as she wasn't putting any weight on her left foot. she even let me poke and prode at her leg and foot without a fuss. unsure of the extent of her injury, fai and i decided to take her to urgent care. we gave noe to a friend and took mali in together. as i'm explaining that she won't even stand up, she stands up...and walks. she was limping, but didn't seem to be in real pain. the doctor looked at the foot, took an x-ray, and pronounced that there was no fracture. he sent us home, saying that if the radiologist saw anything different, he'd call. we left at 8:15pm and picked up noe, getting home at about 8:50pm. we saw a missed call from 8:30pm from urgent care saying to call back because there is, indeed, a fracture and she needs to see someone in orthopedics for a splint. they closed, at 8, however, so we couldn't get them to answer the phone. this morning, i called and got an appointment with the orthopedist.

***UPDATE:
mali's break is one that heals in two weeks and is okay to walk on. since she is walking and stays with me rather than goes to daycare, they didn't even put a cast on (though they said to come back on monday if she complains a lot over the weekend). she is in really good spirits and is as active as ever right now, so things are looking good! i'm so relieved!
