i try not to post any bad news or anything depressing on my blog, wanting it to always be something pleasant and amusing for my readers. but there will be times when i will have to make an exception. today is one of those days. i must now retract a previous post with bad news.
it would seem that i was too hasty to express my elation about getting a house. after seeing over 40 houses in the past few months...well, i still haven't found one. the house on Enchanted Forest, which had shown such promise, is apparently not destined to be the home of the Poons. after the inspections, we discovered that quite a bit of work needed to be done (the roof, a lot of electric, the septic and a few other smaller things) which would run us about $15K to do. after the normal request to the seller to resolve these issues or to come down more on the price in order for us to see to the repairs, we have found that the seller is unwilling to compromise. she will not see to any of the repairs other than the required septic (it flunked the inspection) which is only $1K. well, needless to say, we are unwilling to pay what is barely below the list price that's on the contract only to pay another $15K, which would put us above the list price. it's a shame. it's a charming house and we had big plans. not to mention that i was happy at the prospect of leaving the mardi gras house soon. alas, three weeks from closing, we have walked away from the contract. so the search is back on, though this disheartening experience has somewhat dampened any optimism or enthusiasm i might have at that thought.
i'm in a rotten mood now, so i'll end here.
